Coding at Innovate Academy: Learning the Language of the Future

At Innovate Academy, we often tell families that today’s scholars need to become bilingual in two essential languages: Latin and coding. One connects them to the roots of our culture; the other prepares them to shape its future.

That is why coding is a core part of learning at every level at IA, supported by after-school opportunities such as Robotic Explorers. Our goal is not simply to teach scholars how to use technology, but to help them understand how technology works.

More Than Screen Time

Many children already know how to swipe, tap, and play games. Coding invites them to move from consumers to creators. When scholars learn to program, they practice:

  • logical and sequential thinking,

  • breaking big problems into smaller steps,

  • testing ideas and revising them,

  • collaborating to design solutions.

These are the same habits we cultivate in math, Latin, and classical reasoning—only now applied to the digital world.

Partnering with Code.org

Innovate Academy is proud to partner with Code.org, a nonprofit dedicated to expanding access to computer science for all scholars. Code.org provides engaging, age-appropriate curriculum used in schools across the country and supports the global Hour of Code initiative.

Through this partnership, our scholars are introduced to foundational concepts such as:

  • algorithms and problem solving,

  • basic programming languages,

  • digital citizenship and ethics,

  • creative design through games and apps.

The curriculum is designed so that beginners can succeed while more advanced scholars are challenged to go further.

Learning Beyond the Classroom

Because coding is part of every scholar’s education, our after-school program Robotic Explorers becomes a place to go deeper and explore new interests. Scholars build and program robots, test ideas, and work together to solve challenges that bring classroom concepts to life. These experiences allow scholars to apply what they are learning in a collaborative environment—often discovering gifts they never knew they had.

Forming Culture Makers

Technology shapes nearly every field—from medicine and business to art, ministry, and public service. By learning to code, scholars gain the confidence to engage that world thoughtfully rather than passively.

At Innovate Academy, coding is not about creating the next app alone; it is about forming young people who can use technology wisely, creatively, and for the good of others.
